Council Positions and Expectations

Principal

  • Set meeting agenda in co-operation with the School Council Chair(s)

  • Communicate school needs/issues

  • Report on such things as budget, school success plan etc...

  • Chair and/or Co-Chair

  • Set meeting Agenda in co-operation with the Principal

  • Conduct meetings and ensure that all communication is respectful

  • Ensure that all communications and discussions by Council Members are within the scope of the Council Constitution and By-laws

  • Create and communicate with Council Sub-Committees

  • Annual report

  • Maintain Council information held at the school

  • Deal with internal conflict in accordance with Council By-Laws

  • Treasurer

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in co-operation with school staff

  • Report re: finances during Council meetings

  • Secretary

  • Record information discussed during Council Meetings

  • Provide Meeting Minutes within a week following a meeting to Council Members

  • Community Representative

  • Attend Council Meetings in an advisory capacity

  • Teacher Representative

  • Attend Council Meetings in an advisory capacity from the perspective of the teaching staff

  • Staff Representative

  • Attend Council Meetings in an advisory capacity from the perspective of other school staff

  • Student Representative

  • Attend Council Meetings in an advisory capacity from the perspective of the students

  • Voting Members

  • Expected to attend meetings and to take on tasks as required throughout the school year

  • Non-Voting Memebrs

  • Expected to attend meetings when possible in an advisory capacity

  • Council Sub-Committees

  • Meet/Discuss/Research on the particular event or job the Committee was created for

  • Report to Chair(s) before the following Council Meeting

  • Report during Council Meeting when asked by Chair(s)
